Maybe your ideas aren't very good, dictionary. It's not always the studio's fault. It's possible you could suck.

A quick word about the contest. It is true, it is a first draft competition. At Manka it's first thought, best thought and we want your raw writing. It's cheap to enter and it can catapult you straight to the top of the Hollywood food chain. Think about it writers. Deadline is November 1st.

Thank you, Robin for your response... finally. So what's the deal with the Screenplay Competition? When you START accepting submissions? What's the cost, etc.?

We're rewriting the rules over the next couple of weeks. We're going to change the format a little so that we encourage people to send in their FIRST DRAFTS. I think the cost will be same as always (which I may say is one of the most affordable contest to enter) $10 a script - no limit on the number of scripts. It's all coming. I promise.

Last year, we had a lot of great ideas submitted about ways to run the contest. If anyone has suggestions on how we can make this contest unique and unlike the other 1,000 or so screenplay contests out there, post them here or e-mail here: RobinRafe@mankabros.com

Yeah. Here's a suggestion. Don't get the award to horrible hacks like EJ Berriz. My God, God's Will is atrocious. Is it a joke?

A.J. Berriz's script for God's Will is probably one of the best scripts I've ever read. I'm sorry you feel that way, canadadry. Perhaps you would like to enter the contest.

Thanks, Robin. canadadry, you couldn't have possibly read the whole script. And I would hope you're not making your opinion based on the 1st page. I would hope you would be a little more intelligent than that - especially to have such a strong opinion of my work.

Okay, boys and girls, it's time to put the screenplay competition into high gear. By the end of the week, we'll be announcing here the rules and submission information for the 9th Annual Manka Bros. Screenplay Competition. Stay tuned.

Anybody here read 'Which Lie Did I Tell : More Adventures in the Screen Trade' yet? (Goldman's followup to 'Adventures in the Screen Trade'.)

I'm Lloyd Grohl's assistant here at Manka Bros. and I'm just about to head out the door for a long weekend in my Pine Mountain cabin, but I just wanted to let everyone know, that I am taking over this year's screenplay competition and we'll reall start to crank things up after Labor Day. We've received your e-mails and we're on top of it - and we'll talk to you next week! Have a great weekend!

Because of a restructuring of this contest - we have delayed the 9th Annual Manka Bros. Screenplay Competition until March 2001. Thanks for your patience. It's going to be our best competition ever!

This is a great time for storytelling right now. Studios have cast off the "formula" and basically have no clue what works. I have never enjoyed screenwriting more than I have over the last couple months. I know the strike is looming and we're not supposed to "write" after May 1st. But that's only for a paycheck (even though guild says not to even write on spec during that time... like that will hold). I have been completely rejuvenated lately, I'm not sure why... as long as I keep WANTING to write, then I shouldn't ask why. It's only the times you don't want to write that it's a struggle to get words on the page. The key is to love writing... if you don't, forget it. Why try?

At Manka Bros., we know what works and aren't changing a thing. We haven't changed in 84 years and we're not going to start now. It's the writer's funeral if they go on strike.
