Ferguson To Sign Up for 'Dancing With the Stars'?

Former British royal Sarah Ferguson has been offered the chance to appear on Dancing With The Stars, after publicly announcing her desire to star on the US talent show. The Duchess Of York spends a lot of time in the United States and has become an avid fan of the ABC show, which is inspired by the original BBC program Strictly Come Dancing. Dancing With The Stars producer Conrad Green says, "Fergie will add a touch of class to the proceedings and the fans will be waiting to see if she falls for her dance partner. Everyone loves a royal romance and her presence will bring dazzling ratings. We like having a mixture and we've not had a duchess."

Former 'N Sync Star Fatone Set for Dance-Off

Former 'N Sync star Joey Fatone will join the next round of US celebrity reality competition Dancing With The Stars. The singer broke the news over the weekend, when he was interviewed by a radio station in Florida. Fatone said producers had previously approached him three times about being on the show, but he declined - until now. He explains his change of heart by saying, "Well, it's kind of popular now! I like doing it because it's challenging." The hit show will return for a fourth season in March 2007.

Mills Confirms 'Dancing With the Stars' Appearance

Sir Paul McCartney's estranged wife Heather Mills has confirmed she will appear on TV show Dancing With The Stars - despite denying any involvement with the show earlier this month. Mills will take to the ice alongside singer Billy Ray Cyrus and former N'Sync star Joey Fatone, and will be the first contestant to dance with an artificial limb. Her spokesperson hopes the experience will help distract Mills from her split from the former Beatle in May last year. Phil Hall, Mills' spokesperson, says, "It's something that might take her mind off some of the difficulties she's been having. She's doing it because she loves dancing, always has, enjoys a challenge and sees this as a combination of both." Hall adds Mills' participation is "nothing to do with the money" adding, "It's just to do with he challenge and fun of it." The show begins on March 19 in the US.

'Sopranos' Star Quits Reality Show

The Sopranos actor Vincent Pastore has quit US reality show Dancing With The Stars after just one week of training because it's too demanding. The 60-year-old claims the strenuous nature of the competition was overwhelming and he will not appear on the series' upcoming fourth season. Pastore explains, "When I initially committed to joining Dancing With The Stars I didn't realize just how physically demanding it would be for me. Unable to put forth my best effort, I felt it appropriate to step aside and give someone else the opportunity." The show's executive producer, Conrad Green, claims the producers harbor no ill will against the actor adding, "Dancing With The Stars is physically demanding and it pays to know your limits. We respect his decision." The new season of the show starts on March 19 and will feature competitors including Heather Mills, Billy Ray Cyrus and former 'N Sync member Joey Fatone.

ABC Is Starry Eyed Again

The two-hour return of Dancing With the Stars boosted ABC into the lead Monday night as the first hour recorded a resounding 14.5 rating and a 22 share, shellacking NBC's usual winner in the hour, Deal or No Deal, which recorded an 8.2/13. At 9:00 p.m., ratings for Dancing rose to a 15.8/23 (peaking at 9:30 p.m. with a 16.0/23, representing 23.24 million viewers), while a second hour of Deal drew a 9.2/14. However, ABC's audience fled at 10:00 p.m. as ratings for What About Brian came in at a so-so 5.2/6, while CBS gained the lead with CSI: Miami, which pulled an 11.5/19. NBC continued to languish in that timeslot, drawing a meager 4.1/7 for The Black Donnellys. Meanwhile Nielsen reported Monday that CBS averaged a 5.8/13 for the first four days of its coverage of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, up 4 percent from its average for the same period a year ago.

Dancing Mills Hailed As an "Inspiration" on Reality Show

Heather Mills has been hailed as an "inspiration" by Dancing With The Stars judges after her first performance on the US reality TV show. The former model - who lost a leg when she was hit by a motorcycle in 1993 - scored an impressive 18 points after her foxtrot with dance partner Jonathan Roberts on the ABC show Monday night. The score left Mills and Roberts mid-table in the competition. She was given a standing ovation by sections of the studio audience after ending her dance with an ambitious high-kick. And British judge Len Goodman took the opportunity to hail Mills' for competing with an artificial leg. He said, "There was far more right about that routine than wrong. I think you are an inspiration to people to get out and dance." Mills was marked down by judges for having a tense upper body throughout her dance. But the estranged wife of Sir Paul McCartney insists she was happy not to have fallen over. She said after the dance, "I'm just glad I did not fall over. I thought I would be lowest so I am pleased."

McCartney Sends Flowers to Mills

Sir Paul McCartney and estranged wife Heather Mills are still friends and the former Beatle sent a bouquet of flowers to mark the former model's debut on reality TV show Dancing With The Stars. Despite media reports of a bitter battle between the pair - who split last year after four years of marriage - Mills insists relations between her and McCartney are amicable, and blames the rocker's lawyers for dragging out their divorce. She told talk show host Larry King on Tuesday night about McCartney's gift: "It was nice. There was a card that read, 'Dear Mummy, love Daddy and Beatrice.' We still have a friendship, it's just the lawyers who are nasty. Not on my side, but on his side. There's one woman. The lawyer, Fiona Shackleton, wants to drag it out to fill her pockets. She has said some mean things. She wants to make it as difficult as possible." She adds of her split from McCartney, "I still love him. He's the father of my child. But you can love someone and not be right for each other and have to move on. It's like a death. You marry someone because you are madly in love. We had a beautiful child after I'd had ectopic pregnancies and a miscarriage. We were together for seven years. We tried and tried and tried. But sometimes you have to say, 'It's not working.'"

Dancing' Misstep

What was described as a "control room crash" at the ABC Network nerve center in New York knocked the last several minutes of the Dancing With the Stars results show off the air in parts of the country Tuesday night. Memphis television station WPTY reported during its Eyewitness News telecast, which followed the network telecast, that the end of the show, which saw the elimination of contestant Paulina Porizkova, did not air anywhere in the central time zone. The technical problem would have had detrimental consequences had it occurred during the live performance telecast a night earlier. As it was, Porizkova and her partner, first-season winner Alec Mazo, received better scores from the show's judges than they did from the audience. Tuesday's show continued to perform spectacularly in the ratings, posting a 12.9 rating and a 19 share. Nevertheless, Fox's American Idol finished higher for the night, recording a 16.1/25, as did Idol's lead-out, House, which posted a 14.1/21.

'Dancing' Waltzes to Ratings Win

ABC's Dancing With the Stars once again danced off with top ratings Monday night, but the return of the much-taken-for-granted The King of Queens kept CBS in the ratings race. The first hour of Dancing at 8:00 p.m. registered an 11.9 rating and a 19 share, while the final segment at 9:00 posted a 12.6/19. The network's ratings plunged with the start of The Bachelor, which followed, drawing only a 6.7/10 against an 8.6/13 for The King of Queens. Meanwhile, the premiere of NBC's improv comedy Thank God You're Here opened with a third-place 5.8/9, falling in the 10:00 p.m. hour to a 4.4/7.

Mills Voted Off 'Dancing With the Stars'

Heather Mills has been kicked off the hit TV show Dancing With The Stars, despite winning over judges with her "great passion and fire" during a performance of the paso doble. The estranged wife of Sir Paul McCartney was voted off the program Tuesday night, after failing to impress viewers with her dancing alongside professional partner, Jonathan Roberts. But in her farewell speech, Mills confessed she was "not surprised" by the result, before going on to thank her supporters for "raising a fortune" for her animal welfare charity and "saving hundreds of thousands of animals' lives" in the process. Those still remaining in the celebrity contest include singers Billy Ray Cyrus and Joey Fatone, and boxer Laila Ali.

'Dancing' Steps On Rivals' Toes

An episode of ABC's Dancing With the Stars lasting one hour and 45 minutes overwhelmed competition from the other networks Monday nights -- including programs that had managed to make the Nielsen top ten before the dancing competition reappeared. Dancing averaged a 13.2 rating and a 20 share. In the 8:00 p.m. hour it made NBC's Deal or No Deal seem like not an especially big deal. The game show drew a 7.7 rating an a 12 share. In the 9:00 hour, the usually unbeatable CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men drew an 8.5/12 against Dancing. NBC's Heroes was third with an 8.5/12. ABC scheduled The Bachelor: An Officer and a Gentleman at 9:45 p.m., hoping that the audience for Dancing would stay tuned to the once-popular Bachelor series. That did not prove to be the case as the show averaged only a 6.2/10, only half of Dancing's numbers, over its one hour and 15 minutes. CBS won the 10:00 p.m. hour with CSI: Miami, which registered a 12.2/19. On NBC, the second week of The Real Wedding Crashers crashed to a 4.1/7.

Seymour Travels to England After Mother Passes Away

Actress Jane Seymour's bid for dancing glory on TV in America has taken a stumble - the woman who inspired her to sign up for the current season of Dancing With The Stars has died. Seymour will miss Tuesday's live results show as she travels to England to be with her family following the death of her elderly mother. The 92-year-old died in England on Monday due to complications from a stroke. Seymour recently admitted she was inspired to take part in Dancing With The Stars after her ailing mum became excited when the British beauty told her of her plans - and uttered her first words since the stroke. In a statement, Seymour says, "My mother survived incredible challenges... Her health issues that she never complained about... three and a half years in a Japanese concentration camp in World War II and the loss of her husband John, who was the love of her life. However, she was always a beacon of love and hope for all she met and especially for my sisters Anne and Sally and for our entire family. Her spirit was indomitable and will continue to live forever in our hearts."

Mondays Are for 'Dancing'

ABC again danced away with the ratings Monday night as its Dancing With the Stars recorded a 13.4 rating and a 20 share in the 8:00 p.m. hour and a 13.8/19 at 9:00 p.m., according to preliminary figures released by Nielsen today. (Due to technical difficulties, some major markets were not included in the initial results.) CBS took the 10:00 p.m. hour with CSI: Miami drawing a 10.6/17. In the same hour NBC's Journeyman appeared close to the end of its journey as it wound up with a 3.8/6.

No Misstep for 'Dancing'

ABC didn't miss a beat with last night's (Tuesday) edition of Dancing With the Stars. The first hour of the show registered a 13.8/20, while the second hour (actually 45 minutes) managed a 13.4/19 -- more than a full ratings point ahead of last week. Nevertheless, they represented the highest-rated hours of the night and in each hour bettered the combined ratings of the other three networks. CBS won the 10:00 p.m. hour, however, with a solid 9.6/16 for CSI: Miami.
