What does anyone think of Diana Krall? She's an attractive white women from affluent parents - but her voice is incredible. I think there's too many strikes against - like the fact that she's dating the record executive that gave the contract. Stuff like that. IP: Logged |

I must admit, I actually like Diana Krall. She's got a real smokey voice and it doesn't sound "put on". She seems very natural. I can't watch her because it is a little off putting to have this attractive blond woman singing these songs normally associated with the great jazz singers from the past. But on cd she's really good. I wouldn't put her in the same league with Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaughn - but I don't think she would want to be considered that high.IP: Logged |

There ain't nobody or never will be anybody like Frank. It's Frank or highway for me. Tony Bennett is good for the kids and the man can sing, but there's only Frank.IP: Logged |

how ironic it is that a guy named witness protection and his brother are big Frankie fans. You need witness protection to talk about Frank and all his underworld pals. Honestly, I always thought the guy was a creep. and let's face it, he was TOTALLY FLAT the last 30 years of his lifeIP: Logged |

I love Diana Krull. Wow I have her CD called "Steppin' Out" I listen to it over and over again. She is amazing. And speaking of jazz vocalists... I go nuts for that Brazilian Jazz... can't get ovah the Bossa Nova. Gilberto Jobim had a voice like silk. Other vocalists of today I like are Diane Schur. there's a pretty voice. And I'm also a fan of Randie Crawford and Bill Withers. They left a soul shadow on my mind. IP: Logged |

Jobim is great. It's like a cool summer breeze whenever you hear him. My favorite is Mel Torme. I like him because he always faithful to the melody that the composers wrote before going off on his improvisations. He does at least one run through before adding his own touch. Most jazz vocalists try to improve on what the composer had in mind or try to interpret them differently. Mel was a strong supportor of the songwriters.IP: Logged |

Diana Krall and Tony Bennett are on tour together. That would be a good show! She's great. It doesn't bother me that she's blonde and young. She's got a great voice. And Tony... come on...IP: Logged |

Heard that Ken Burns is doing a 19 hour documentary on the history of Jazz. Shouldn't people rise up and say there are certain things that don't need the Ned Flanders touch. It's going to be a tame Walt Disney Americana approach that will sicken jazz purists.IP: Logged |

I think you're overreacting. The fact that 19 hour documentary on jazz is being funded and made is a victory in itself. Even with important material and artists left out, I'm sure there were be a fascination with the subject and something like can only bring new fans to jazz. That's not a bad thing.IP: Logged |

If you are a jazz fan - may I suggest www.napster.com - NAPSTER is awesome. You type anything - anything recording, any artist and you can probably get it on Napster and then burn your own CDs. I'm loading up before the government shuts it down.IP: Logged |
