Madonna Concert Special Canceled

Madonna's planned concert for American TV network CBS has been called off, after a series of wrangles with bosses. A network representative says the Music singer and CBS couldn't agree on several issues, including whether the show would air without commercial interruption. The concert was to have been taped in Lisbon, Portugal, next week during the pop superstar's Re-Invention tour and then aired at a later date. However, Madonna wanted the broadcast to run beyond the two hours and be commercial-free, similar to concert specials that air on cable network HBO. CBS reportedly balked at the requests, specifically wanting to keep the show within the two-hour time frame.

Madonna Plans Spears' Honeymoon

Pop beauty Britney Spears has accepted Madonna's invitation to spend her honeymoon at the Material Girl's British country estate, pals claim. Madonna and her director husband Guy Ritchie phoned the Toxic singer to congratulate her on last Saturday's wedding to dancer Kevin Federline, and thrilled the 22-year-old by offering her a break from the American media at her $16 million Wiltshire home, reports Britain's The Sun newspaper. Spears' close friend says, "Madonna always keeps an eye out for Britney. She has taken a keen interest in her career. She and Guy decided it would be a better idea to have them for a holiday than send them a gift. Britney was so flattered. She looks up to Madonna and has always claimed she is one of her biggest influences. Spending some time at Madonna's house in England was the ultimate wedding present. It's not an audience many stars are granted."

Madonna Enrolls at Prestigious University

Pop queen Madonna is so frustrated she sacrificed her education for pop music - she's allegedly enrolled at Britain's prestigious Oxford University for a degree in English Literature. The Material Girl rekindled her love of books after writing popular children's series The English Roses, and is looking forward to studying for a Bachelor of Arts qualification from home, with the celebrated institution which counts four British Kings, 47 Nobel prize-winners, 25 British Prime Ministers and six saints as past students. An insider tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "Madonna was always irritated about giving up her schooling when her career took off. She is fiercely intelligent and incredibly well read and has always taken a keen interest in literature. She is determined to get a qualification. She sets herself new challenges all the time and the Oxford University course is her latest. It's an illustrious place to study and she was delighted to be accepted and will make the most of the opportunity."

Sir Elton: "Madonna Should Be Shot for Miming"

Pop legend Sir Elton John launched an astonishing attack on Madonna at yesterday's Q Music Awards in London - accusing her of cheating fans by miming on stage. John launched into a rant when he heard the Material Girl had been nominated for Best Live Act, after he collected the Classic Songwriter prize at the prestigious bash in the Grosvenor House Hotel. He said of his fellow nominee, "Anyone who lip-synchs in public on stage when you pay £75 to see them should be shot. That's me off her Christmas card list. But do I give a toss? No." Madonna's spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg struck back immediately, insisting, "Madonna does not lip-synch nor does she spend her time trashing other artists. She sang every note of her Re-Invention tour live and is not ashamed that she was well paid for her hard work. Elton John remains on her Christmas card list whether he is nice... or naughty."

Madonna Fears "Crazy Stalker"

Madonna is terrified to leave her home, as she fears she will be shot by an obsessive stalker. The Material Girl has reportedly been followed by a middle-aged American man since the start of her Reinvention tour in May, and in the past few weeks it has got worse. The man has allegedly delivered a series of nasty notes to the star's London home, in which he makes sexual demands. A source close to Madonna tells British newspaper The Sun, "Madonna is very scared about this man - she has become paranoid. She thinks he's so unstable, she could be murdered like John Lennon. This character is the worst stalker Madonna has ever encountered. It has reached a level where police will have to be involved - she is taking the threat very seriously indeed." Madonna had another security scare earlier this year - she was forced to axe three concerts in Israel after terrorists threatened to kill her.

Madonna Sacked Manager Because of Kabbalah

Madonna's devotion to the Kabbalah was behind her decision to fire her long-term manager Caresse Henry, after discovering Henry was having an affair with a bodyguard. The "Like A Virgin" singer was reportedly shocked that Henry, who had also converted to the mystical offshoot of Judaism, had broken one of the religion's strictest teachings - faithfulness. Henry had a partner back in America, while security man Ricky Dallanegra lived with his girlfriend in London. They have since become a couple after leaving their respective partners. Madonna sought the advice of her rabbi on the matter when she learned of the romance during this summer's Re-invention tour, before deciding to follow the Kabbalah practices and disown Henry. An insider tells British newspaper The Sun, "Madonna and Guy are deeply committed to their Kabbalah faith which preaches monogamy and faithfulness. It's ironic, because Madonna used to eat men for breakfast. Now's she's a married mother and Kabbalist, she believes cheating is a serious sin. "When she found out her manager was having an affair with her own bodyguard she was devastated. Madonna had a huge falling out with Caresse and said she couldn't possibly work with her any more."

Madonna's Oscar Fury

Madonna flew into a rage when two backstage workers at the 1991 Oscars made errors affecting the perfectionist singer, according to an explosive new book. Film journalist Steve Pond has exposed the Material Girl's diva-like behavior in his new book The Big Show: High Times And Dirty Dealings Backstage At The Academy Awards. Pond claims a female camera operator was seriously injured after falling off the stage into the orchestra pit while Madonna was preparing to rehearse her Dick Tracy tune "Sooner Or Later" to the celebrity-packed audience. But instead of expressing concern, the pop legend was enraged when she was informed her performance had been delayed by the mishap - and reportedly commented, "But she's just lying there. Can't we just do this?" The situation got worse when a technician fell asleep and ruined a planned stunt which was supposed to involve her microphone appearing out of nowhere. Pond recalls in the tome due out next month, "(Madonna launched) into an astonishingly profane tirade, despite the fact that the area below the stage was also occupied by a group of children. Furious, she grabbed (the bearer of the bad news) around the neck and lifted him bodily off the ground, not relinquishing her grip until the trapdoor opened and she began to rise."

Madonna Slams Jewison for Attacking Her Acting

Pop legend Madonna has slammed director Norman Jewison for his scathing criticism of her acting abilities. The Moonstruck film-maker attacked movie bosses for giving the Material Girl a succession of coveted movie roles, despite her lack of talent. But Madonna insists she wouldn't have achieved her superstar status is she wasn't a skilled entertainer. Jewison says, "Madonna? It's all hype. Come on. How do you know whether anybody can act? You're told that they're a big star, you know, or somebody's got a cute ass or they've got great boobs. But Madonna has a small amount of talent when it comes to movies. And we're all being suffocated by talentless stars in films. I can't believe that people are obsessed like they are now with celebrity. I don't know what's going on." But Madonna's spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg told gossip website The Scoop, "I completely disagree with his statement about Madonna making a lot out of a little talent. I don't think you can sell 100 million records and sell out arenas and stadiums for over 20 years just being a celebrity. Madonna is a Golden Globe winner and a Grammy winner and has had an unprecedented career as an artist and actress."

Madonna Accused of Plagiarism in Lawsuit

Pop superstar Madonna is being sued by a Belgian composer, who accuses the Material Girl of stealing the melody from his song "My Life's Getting Nowhere" for her 1998 hit "Frozen." Salvatore Acquaviva testified on Wednesday at Belgian's Mons court that Madonna lifted several bars from his song, which he wrote five years earlier. His lawyers also argued Madonna may have heard the song when she met Acquaviva's producer. But the glamorous 46-year-old's lawyer Fabienne Brison denied the plagiarism accusations, insisting Acquaviva's lawsuit is motivated by a desire for Madonna's money. Acquaviva explains, "I was in the bath. I was listening to the radio, and thought that's strange, I know that melody. I said it's not possible." But Brison counters, "Just because there are similarities between two songs it doesn't mean it has been plagiarized. There are certain artists who hear songs on the radio, see that they are very successful and say to themselves, 'Why shouldn't I try it on?'" Royalties for "Frozen" have been halted until hearings on the case resume next month .

Madonna Regrets Sexy Past

Pop superstar Madonna regrets letting her ego get the better of her during the 1980s and early 1990s - because she now wishes she hadn't been so raunchy. The Material Girl became famous for pushing the boundaries of what was sexually acceptable behavior in a mainstream pop star. But the 46-year-old, who now has two children and is married to film-maker Guy Ritchie, admits she was courting publicity for all the wrong reasons. She says, "Sometimes I was being overtly sexual for the sake of showing off when I didn't need to be. I think I hurt myself. Ultimately none of us wants to be judged, or approved of, or loved because of the way we look, or how sexy we are. One minute I was saying believe in yourself and the next minute I was saying just be sexually provocative for the sake of being sexually provocative. I was letting it pump my ego, thinking aren't I great, they're writing about me, my picture's on the cover of every magazine, I'm so fabulous."

Madonna Snubs America

Pop superstar Madonna has rejected American life completely - insisting England is now her home. The formerly pleasure-seeking pop queen, 46, adores her simple life with director husband Guy Ritchie and children Lourdes, eight, and Rocco, four, at Ashcombe - a swanky 1000-acre estate in idyllic Wiltshire, once owned by photography legend Cecil Beaton And she admits she never imagined her life would turn out this way when she was a feisty young star in the 1980s. She says, "The last thing I thought I would do is marry some laddish, shooting, pub-going nature lover. And the last thing he thought he was going to do was marry some cheeky girl from the Midwest who doesn't take no for an answer. But now I love England and want to be here and not in America. I see England as my home."

Madonna Finds New Image with Price

Pop queen Madonna has teamed up with producer Stuart Price to create a brand new sound for her upcoming album Confessions On A Dancefloor. The so-called queen of reinvention believes working closely with the musician has spawned a catchy style she calls "future disco", which is set to rock the club scene when it hits shelves later this year. And the pair found each other so inspiring, they simply couldn't stop writing songs. Price says, "We live real near each other in London, and we could just send ideas back and forth and get together and work on stuff. The creative process was very short. There were a couple of weeks in London at my studio where we were doing a song every day. Every few months, a club record comes along that hits a nerve with people, and they connect to it. They don't know why, but there is something magical in it. That's what we were trying to make."

Madonna Suffers Broken Bones in Accident

Madonna's 47th birthday celebration was marred when she suffered several broken bones in a horse riding accident at her country home outside London, her publicist told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

The superstar was hospitalized with three cracked ribs, a broken collarbone and a broken hand, according to Liz Rosenberg, her spokeswoman based in New York.

The accident occurred Tuesday at Ashcombe house, her estate outside of London.

Madonna and an assistant were riding horses, when Madonna, on a new horse she wasn't accustomed to riding, took a tumble. Her children, Rocco and Lourdes, were at the home but were not with their mother at the time, Rosenberg said.

"The whole family was out in the country, celebrating her birthday," Rosenberg said.

Her husband, director Guy Ritchie, took Madonna to an undisclosed hospital, where she was treated. Rosenberg said the entertainer was expected to be released later in the evening.

Pals Feared for Madonna's Life

Madonna's friends feared for the superstar's life when she fell off her horse and lost consciousness after landing on ground "as hard as concrete" in her riding accident on Tuesday. The Material Girl, who was celebrating her 47th birthday, was briefly knocked out by the impact and lay motionless as panicking friends rushed to her aid at her estate in rural England. An air ambulance flew Madonna to a nearby hospital, where she was later discharged with confirmed injuries of a broken hand, a broken collar bone and three cracked ribs. Husband and film director Guy Ritchie had organized for pals to bring down four horses to their $16.2 million country estate on the Wiltshire-Devon border, to surprise the singer with a leisurely group ride as part her birthday celebrations. The thoroughbred horse took off faster than Madonna was expecting and she lost her balance and fell onto the solid ground. An insider tells British newspaper the Daily Mirror, "She lay unconscious on the floor for a few seconds and everyone was afraid. If the horse had landed on top of Madonna or trodden on her, it could have been an awful lost worse. Although she's in excruciating pain, she did get off quite lightly."

Madonna To Reprise 'Evita' for London Stage?

London theatre bosses are touting Madonna to reprise her film role of Argentina's first lady Eva Peron in a new production of Evita. The Material Girl fought off a host of Hollywood actresses to play the glamorous wife of corrupt Argentine president Juan Peron in the 1996 film. Previous plans to resurrect the musical in the British capital collapsed in 2003 when its authors Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber decided the city was not in the mood for serious musicals. However, now the same creative team, comprising of director Michael Grandage, choreographer Rob Ashford and designer Christopher Oram, are in discussions to launch Evita in the West End next year, and hope Madonna will step into Peron's expensive shoes.
