I was in 6th grade when he was killed. The day after, the principal- who was an ex-hippie-let everyone out of school because he wanted to go to a memorial service. On the intercom he told us we should pay attention to what was happening and learn what we could about John Lennon. Really weird to have "the establishment" be that way.

I woke up that Monday to hear about John Lennon's death on the radio, I was only 14 years old ... I was so upset, my mom let me stay home from school. She was upset also. I found out later that many of my classmates had also stayed home that day. One of the local radio stations played nothing but Beatles and Lennon music all day long, with no commericals ... they let people call in and express their shock and grief. I just sat and listened and cried.

Yeah, I heard on Monday Night Football as well. I think most of the nation heard it there first because it was before the news and before 24 cable news channels.

Yoko is a bitch for the way she cut Julian out of the will. But John is so great. What a great soul he was.

You know I'm often tempted to say bad things about Yoko but always end up holding back. I'm such a huge fan of Lennon that I've got to assume there was more there than any of the rest of us could see. No question that John loved her and that's good enough for me.

I like Julian too and it sucks what he had to go through, but John wasn't faultless where that is concerned. Anyway, I'm getting off track.

Can't remember where I was when I found out, but I'm certain it was one of the many things that made me hate people the way I do now. Senseless. Just senseless.

Well, John Lennon wouldn't think very highly of a person named PeopleHater. That's for sure! "All You Need Is Love" - don't forget it.

John was #2 behind the King!
----------------
Elvis Presley was named the top money earner among dead celebrities in a wacky list recently compiled by Forbes magazine. "The King" is actually making more money now than he did when he was alive - last year, he earned an estimated $35 million with admissions to his Graceland home and album sales. The magazine credits smart, lucrative licensing agreements and fat royalty checks as the main money source. Others top dead celebrity earners include John Lennon ($20 million), Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley ($10 million), Frank Sinatra ($6 million) and the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia ($5 million). Actress Marilyn Monroe is the only woman to make the list ($4 million).

"The unknown is what it is. And to be frightened of it is what sends everybody scurrying around chasing dreams, illusions, wars, peace, love, hate, all that. Unknown is what it is. Accept that it's unknown, and it's plain sailing." - John Lennon

There was a poll recently conducted (I think it's a VH1 thing) and the murder of John Lennon was called the most shocking event in the history of rock and roll. Maybe that doesn't mean too much, but I don't have any arguments with that. Only the day the music died would even come close to comparing.

A piece of Liverpool's musical history has come on the market - John Lennon's childhood home. The house on Menlove Avenue where Lennon was raised by his Aunt Mimi (his mother's sister) is on the block for an asking price of 150,000 British pounds, though it's expected to sell for up to 300,000 pounds. Ernest Burkey, who died recently, had owned the property for more than 30 years. Burkey's family plans to advertise the home on the Internet as well as in Liverpool, but officials at Britain's National Trust - which currently owns the childhood home of Lennon's Beatles partner Paul McCartney - say the agency has no plans to be among the bidders.

Yoko Ono, the widow of murdered Beatle John Lennon, visited the airport named for her late husband Monday and said he would have been "very proud." "Thank you very, very much for remembering John and for loving John," Ono said as she introduced the new logo for Liverpool John Lennon Airport. "John always reminded of us of the sense of fun in life. I hope the airport will send a great message to all corners of the world. As John said, there is no hell below us, above us only skies." The airport's new logo includes a Lennon self-portrait and the printed line "Above us only sky," from his song "Imagine." The airport will become Liverpool John Lennon Airport when a new terminal opens in the northern English city in the spring of 2002.

That John Lennon concert was pretty good last night. A lot of very strange interpretations of the songs - I like Lou Reed doing Jealous Guy and the Sean Lennon "Julia" was not as painful as it could have been. Poor guy is starting to look more like Yoko than John.
