Stones Slam Super Bowl Censorship

Veteran rockers The Rolling Stones have blasted the censorship of sexually suggestive lyrics during their Super Bowl half-time show on Sunday night as "absolutely ridiculous" - despite claims from the National Football League the band consented to the move beforehand. Editors turned down Sir Mick Jagger's microphone for risqué lines in hits "Start Me Up" and "Rough Justice" amid fears a repeat of Janet Jackson's infamous wardrobe malfunction at the American football event two years ago would prompt another backlash from family TV audiences. But a spokeswoman for the "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" hitmakers revealed yesterday that the band deemed the measure "absolutely ridiculous and completely unnecessary" and had voiced their opinions to NFL bosses before their three-song set. She added, "The band did the songs they were supposed to do and they sang all the words. There were many, many conversations back and forth and the band clearly was not happy about it." On Monday an NFL spokesman claimed, "We agreed upon it earlier this week. The band were fine with it."

Jagger Refuses To Give Bush Hotel Room

Sir Mick Jagger has refused to give up his room in an Austrian hotel after US President George W. Bush attempted to book it for himself. The Rolling Stones frontman is paying $6,300 a night for the luxury Royal suite at the Imperial Hotel in Vienna, which he reserved just days before Bush's assistants tried to book it for a summit meeting. The president's aides have tried to persuade Jagger, who has spoken out against the war in Iraq, to give the room up - without success. A source tells British newspaper The Sun, "White House officials had wanted to reserve the suite and all the other rooms on the first floor. But Mick and the Stones had already booked every one of them. Bush's people seemed to be under the impression that they would just hand over the suites but there was no way Mick was going to do that." The Royal suite is ranked among the top 100 best hotel rooms in the world.

Conflicting Reports Over Richards Accident

Rolling Stones star Keith Richards is recovering in hospital in Auckland, New Zealand, but press reports disagree over how the guitarist was injured. Initial reports said the 62-year-old rocker fell out of a palm tree while on holiday in Fiji on Thursday and suffered a mild concussion. A local newspaper then alleged Richards got on a jet ski after the fall and hurt himself again in another accident. Band spokeswoman Fran Curtis only comments that Richards was injured earlier this week and flew to New Zealand with wife Patti for observation. Her statement did not mention the severity of Richards' condition or how he was hurt. New Zealand's Sunday Star-Times quoted Doctor Uzzel Kanti Dhar as saying Richards was admitted to a private hospital in Fiji on Thursday and then airlifted to Auckland later that day. Fans gathered outside an Auckland hospital yesterday, and New Zealand's TV3 reported that Richard's wife arrived carrying clothes, while a security guard carried in three guitar cases.

Richards Discharged From Hospital

The Rolling Stones star Keith Richards has been discharged from the hospital in New Zealand, after undergoing brain surgery on Monday. The 62-year-old rocker was rushed to The Ascot Hospital in Auckland after pressure started building on his brain following a fall in Fiji last month. Richards, who will return to the hospital for regular check-ups, thanked "the doctors" and "the beautiful ladies who make painful nights less painful and shorter" in a statement, adding, "I hope I wasn't too much of a pain in the a**e - after all, it was my head that was fixed."

Richards To Shoot 'Pirates' Role in September

Keith Richards' Pirates Of The Caribbean 3 cameo will be filmed when The Rolling Stones European tour wraps up in September, following months of speculation. Johnny Depp famously based his character Captain Jack Sparrow on the guitarist, and Richards has long been touted for an appearance as Depp's father in one of the two forthcoming sequels. And, after masses of on/off speculation, director Gore Verbinski has confirmed Richards will appear in the third Pirates movie, despite falling out of a palm tree in April and subsequently undergoing skull surgery. Verbinski tells MTV, "We've written a little cameo, and Keith has scheduled us into his tour, and it's going to be a lot of fun. Apparently he's doing really well, and we'll shoot him in September."

Stones cancel concert in northern Spain 48 minutes ago

The Rolling Stones canceled a concert Monday in the northern city of Valladolid after Mick Jagger was ordered by his doctor to rest his voice.

Jagger developed laryngitis over the weekend, the Stones said in a statement on their Web site.

The British rockers had sold 37,000 tickets for Monday's appearance at the city's Zorilla soccer stadium, said Carmen Carnero, a spokeswoman for the show's promoter.

Their concert will likely not be rescheduled, Carnero said.

"I am very sorry to be canceling this show," Jagger, 63, said in a statement. "I always love playing in Spain, but unfortunately I have no other choice and I apologize to everyone who bought tickets for tonight."

The Stones are scheduled to play Wednesday in El Ejido, in southern Spain, as part of their "A Bigger Bang" world tour.

They were forced to postpone the start of the European leg of the tour after Keith Richards suffered a head injury in a fall from a tree while vacationing in Fiji in April.

Richards: "I Snorted My Dad"

Rolling Stones star Keith Richards has stunned fans by revealing he once snorted his father's ashes, mixed with cocaine. The 63-year-old guitarist, who has long been associated with all manner of substance abuse, has told Britain's Nme his most bizarre drug-taking session came after his father Bert died in 2002. He says, "He was cremated and I couldn't resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn't have cared. It went down pretty well, and I'm still alive." Richards accepts he should be one of rock's casualties - but luck and an amazing constitution has kept him alive. He adds, "I've no pretensions about immortality. I'm the same as everyone... just kind of lucky. I was number one on the 'Who's likely to die' list for 10 years. I mean, I was really disappointed when I fell off the list."

Richards: "Snorting My Dad Was a Joke"

Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards insists he never snorted his father's ashes - his recent comments were made in "jest." The Gimme Shelter guitarist can't believe people took him seriously after he told British music magazine Nme he once snorted his dad Bert's ashes mixed with cocaine. He said, "He was cremated and I couldn't resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn't have cared. It went down pretty well, and I'm still alive." However, Richard's manager Jane Rose tells MTV.com that the hellraiser's comments were "said in jest. Can't believe anyone took (it) seriously."

'Light' Shines on Berlinale Opening

The Berlin Film festival is set to open tonight (Thursday) with a screening of Martin Scorsese's Rolling Stones concert documentary, Shine a Light. At a news conference earlier today, the Stones' Keith Richards indicated that the group had been approached several times in the past about making films of their concerts -- something, he indicated, that had never really interested him. However, when he heard that director Scorsese wanted to make such a film, he said, "I thought, 'This is interesting.'" The film, he said, is "Martin's movie. We're just the leading men." Scorsese himself acknowledged that he wanted also to capture "the humor, the absurdity of trying to put [a Stones concert] on film." When a reporter observed that the film may also demonstrate the futility of attempting to do so, Stones front man Mick Jagger suggested that it was intended not merely to present a concert on the movie screen. Rather, he said, it's "that night [of the performance] set in amber."

Report: Jagger target of Hells Angels murder plot
Story Highlights
The Hells Angels were hired as security at the Altamont concert in 1969

Show was a fiasco; a fan was killed by the Angels during Stones' performance

Hells Angels allegedly planned to kill Jagger in N.Y., but storm ruined plans

LONDON, England (AP) -- Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger escaped an assassination plot hatched by the Hells Angels, a new British Broadcasting Corp. documentary claims.

A program to be broadcast Monday on BBC Radio 4 says the rock star was targeted in 1969 following a purported dispute with the motorcycle gang over concert security.

The Hells Angels had been hired on recommendation of the Grateful Dead as security (according to some accounts) at the Altamont Speedway in California for a free concert featuring the Jefferson Airplane, Flying Burrito Brothers and the Stones, among other acts, in December 1969.

The Dead ended up canceling their performance after an altercation between a Hells Angel and the Airplane's Marty Balin. Later, during the Stones' performance, a fan, Meredith Hunter, was killed by the Hells Angels.

The event was documented in the film "Gimme Shelter."

Gang members hatched a plan to kill Jagger at his holiday home in Long Island, New York, the BBC claims. Their attack by sea was thwarted when a storm hit their boat, throwing the men overboard, the program says.

The alleged plan was disclosed during an interview with Mark Young, a former FBI officer, for the BBC's "The FBI at 100" documentary, presenter Tom Mangold was quoted as telling Britain's Sunday Telegraph newspaper.

Hall Selling Off Jagger Wedding Dress For Charity
2 June 2008 12:08 AM, PDT

Former supermodel Jerry Hall is auctioning off the wedding dress she wore when she married Sir Mick Jagger - to raise money for a homeless charity.

The Texan beauty wore a form-fitting cream lace dress designed by Antony Price when she exchanged vows with Jagger in Bali in 1990.

But now, nine years after splitting from the Rolling Stones rocker, Hall is preparing to sell off the dress along with a number of her other fashion wares, with all proceeds going to British organisation Emmaus.

And instead of feeling depressed about her failed marriage, Hall insists she is happy to give someone else the opportunity to own the designer garment - even if it is a little odd to recycle a wedding dress.

She says, "For me, this is a time of letting go, simplifying and getting my priorities right

"I love it that my dresses can have a new lease of life in someone else's wardrobe I just thought, 'This is a great way of recycling.'

"(But) it's really odd to think that some other woman might wear it at her wedding. I just hope whoever she is has more luck than I did!"

The auction will take place at Sotheby's Olympia in London on 10 June. The lace Antony Price dress is estimated at $600-$1,000 (300-500).

Mendes' Crush On Jagger

Eva Mendes has confessed a secret crush on veteran rock legend Sir Mick Jagger.

The sexy star admits she fell to pieces when she ran into the Rolling Stone in a hotel elevator in France four years ago - and then blew her chances of looking cool when the pair met again.

Mendes, 34, says, "I literally collapsed when he got out a floor later. He's delicious, he still looks really good."

She adds of their second meeting, "I thought: 'He's never going to remember me,' so I just say: 'Hi, I'm Eva, nice to meet you,' and he says: 'Oh, I think we met in Paris.'

"I screamed: 'Oh my God, you remember me?' The whole facade falls and I was a complete geek."

Jagger is a producer on Mendes' new movie The Women.

Jagger Offers To Settle Ring Dispute

Latest: Sir Mick Jagger's ex-wife Bianca has offered to settle the dispute over her recently found $295,000 (GBP160,675) ring - by giving the reward money to charity.

Former model Jagger was in Salzburg, Austria in August when she realised she had misplaced the platinum and aquamarine band.

The jewellery was subsequently discovered by Reinhard Ringler, who came forward to claim the $13,000 (GBP8,175) reward he is entitled to under Austrian law - which states the finder be given five per cent of the item's value or 10,000 Euros.

But Jagger initially refused to pay, because of the "long delay" in handing the item over to police.

Ringler claimed he thought the gem was of little value and gave it to his 13-year-old daughter, before handing it in eight days after the loss was reported by the country's press.

But now Jagger has offered to give 90 per cent of the reward money to charity Amnesty International, and 10 per cent to Ringler's daughter.

Ringler's lawyer Paul Kreuzberger says, "I assume, however, that Mr. Ringler will not accept the offer."

Jade Jagger Marries?

6 February 2009 8:05 AM, PST

Sir Mick Jagger's daughter Jade has reportedly married her longterm boyfriend in a secret ceremony. The 37-year-old jewellery designer was rumoured to have become engaged to DJ Dan Williams last year after five years of dating.

And now the couple is said to have walked down the aisle, celebrating the nuptials in private, according to London newspaper The Evening Standard.

The socialite is believed to have announced the news to pals with an update on social networking site Facebook, changing her relationship status from 'In a relationship' to 'Married to Dan Williams'.

A source tells the publication, "The couple have been very happy together for years. They didn't want to rush things and did it when the time was right for them. It just took a few people by surprise when it appeared on Facebook.

"They clearly make a great couple. Everyone is so pleased."

A representative for Jagger has admitted knowing nothing about the alleged marriage.

Jagger has two daughters, Assisi Lola Jackson, 15, and Amba, 12, from a previous relationship.
