I think Earthquakes are very exciting and are the only reason I ever talk to my neighbors. Every fews months it's always a good thing to stand out in the street with your neighbors and talk about how many dishes broke.

I HATE EARTHQUAKES!!! Your so helpless during them. You feel like any moment something could collapse or fall on you.

Did anybody see that in Japan they had a 7.1 earthquake and nobody died and there was very little damage. How is that possible?

When you're not IN the Earthquake, it's really good TV. When you're in the Earthquake and TV is off - that's when it really sucks. Being in the Northridge earthquake and then watching news coverage all day while drinking heavily with friends was really a great day - it was scary as all hell with the aftershocks - but it was fun in a bonding kind of human emotion day! You know what I mean?

When I was in France, this French guy asked me why would I want to live in a city that will be hit by a catastrophic earthquake within the next 10 years. I told him - because it's California, baby. Hollywood.

Was in a meeting in Chicago some years back after the last "big" earthquake ('93?), during one of the typical, horrible mid-west winters (that happen EVERY year) and one of the investors asked me the same thing. I simply replied that since I've been back here in La, we've only had an earthquake of any significance once every seven years, and no one had died in this one. Then I asked him what the death toll was so far for their winter (knowing it was already in the teens)...

As for that next ten years crap... the patterns (as far back as they can read them) would indicate that there already should have been a quake the magnitude of which would reshape the entire pacific rim -- but it would be much more likely to be centered in WA than here. Anyway, Mother Earth is everywhere, the elements are everywhere... live and be at peace with the idea that we are just one of many energy forms ever changing in a very vast universe. That's my motto.

Better to die smashed flat in the Northridge Meadows apartment building than to live in God awful France!

You people are nuts! I love France. It's a beautiful country with beautiful people, incredible food, culture -- yes culture! (not something there's much of here)...

Back on topic, does anyone else go to the weather board on CNN? It's part of my morning habit and it cracks me up that people all over think living here in LaLa is crazy because of earthquakes. People have been dying all over the place from floods, typhoons, deep freezes, etc. Everyday for the last couple of months, that's all the weather headline is, the new death toll somewhere... when's the last time someone died here from an earthquake?

Right! I don't live with the rest of you maniacs down there in LA but I've met people that say - "What if Mt. St. Helens erupts again? Do you feel safe?" Shut up, idiots! Everywhere anybody lives can be dangerous. How bout let's all pack up and move to a trailer park in Oklahoma if we really want to live on the edge. That's dangerous.

How crazy is this timing? I'm just watching CNN (crazy Bush/Gore courtroom crap) and they said that 3 earthquakes just rattled the Truckee, CA area (near Lake Tahoe)... it don't matter where you live. For the record, I have to put my vote in the non-France camp. I woulndn't mind southern Italy or Tahiti though.

Southern Italy is great!

Hey, I was in Pullman when Mt. St. Helens blew. It was a gas! We were on closed week, just before finals (yep, I was in college that long ago...) and it sort of extended a vacation. Friends of the family were in and my closest friend was staying with us... It was one big party for four days!

Then, all these kids were leaving school saying they had to help clean up on the farm (most of them were faking), so lots of finals were cancelled and even a couple of term papers. Natural disasters can be fun!
