This weekend, Rick Santorum accused a New York Times reporter of “bullshit,” something, he said, only a real Republican would do. And now, real Republican Sarah Palin would like to congratulate the presidential candidate on sticking it to the lamestream media. “It was good and it was about time because he’s saying enough of the liberal media twisting conservatives’ words,” the former Alaska governor said on Fox Monday night. “I was like, welcome to my world, Rick. And good on ya, don’t retreat.”

Now we've got a real fight. It should be an election with passion now that gay marriage is on the table.

Obama has pretty much wrapped it up. Romney's had too many gaffes.

While both political parties try to point out the differences of their policies, President Obama has the additional task of leading our nation and keeping America safe. The obstructions, accusations, and slanders against a serving president, border on treason, when they excite some religious cults to wish harm on our country.
I would like to see our president point out this fact and publicly chastise those that would risk our safety for their own political gain. The news media should also use proper judgement on releasing opinions that offend and encourage these radicals to act.
The greatest respect for our fallen 9/11 heroes would be that we learned from our mistakes.

hort of Obama having some sort of major screw-up, I just don't see what Romney can do.
Attack Obama? Polls indicate that the people trust Obama more than Romney, and they like Obama a lot more too, especially with the swing vote. Romney has flipped-flop so much that everyone is making fun of it. How is any attack of his supposed to feel legitimate? To say nothing of how people are generally feeling like things are getting better. And frankly, they just don't blame Obama for our economic problems, and know it was Bush and the Republicans that caused the disaster. This is part of why Romney's attacks haven't had much effect.
And people want a plan on how to handle the economy. Romney can't do that other than making claims regarding the magic results of his plan that cannot be disclosed. If he gives a detailed plan, it will either alienate his base for not being harsh enough or it will alienate everyone else. There's a reason why he hasn't wanted to talk about it. And the fact is, the plan he talked about many months ago is a horrible plan for the country. Focusing on balancing the budget acts like the deficit is a budgetary problem -- but it isn't, it is a job and economic problem, and without fixing those you can't fix the deficit. If we focus on balancing the budget, like Europe did, we'll make things worse, like Europe did. Even the countries over there doing relatively well have done worse than America due to their "austerity" craze.
Obama, on the other hand, can talk about things in far more detail, and rightly doesn't need to propose anything crazy like hurting Medicare or Social Security, because those just aren't solutions. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised, given the current polling, if he asked for a Democratic House and Senate so that he can actually get things done. He's certainly capable of attacking the Republicans for being so obstructionist they'd fillibuster a jobs bill for veterans that got 58-40 votes in favor in the Senate -- including having Republicans who sponsored the bill to vote against it.
Romney can certainly do things that appease the Republican base. But I don't see any evidence he can both appease the Republican base and the rest of the country, because fundamentally the two want very different things. The Republicans are finally stuck with the consequences of encouraging extremism in their own party. They had some short term political gains in 2010 because of it, and now will have some long term problems. Maybe they'll pull themselves together for the next Presidential election.
And of course, Romney did have a problem in previous debates. He'd tend to get a cocky grin and show other signs of an ego that belittled others. Americans just don't like that in their President. So it is quite possible he'll mess up. Fundamentally though, it doesn't matter. The man can't win. The Republican party can't win. They've just encouraged and married themselves to too much extremism. In doing so they've alienated women and almost every ethnic group. Only appealing to white men in an increasingly multi-racial society is no way to run a party.

Romney was never going to win but the 47% comment just sealed the deal.

HELP WANTED: Please explain Republican logic. I do not get how the reds think the guy who blatantly says he's going to ignore 47% of the customers is the guy who should get the job. Anybody? Anyone care to explain?

At some point the American people give up on a candidate because of the candidate's inability to litigate a successful campaign regardless of the issues the candidate represents. When you say something stupid like what Romney said, the people conclude the candidate is out of his league and cannot pass the threshold of being Presidential.

Signs that your campaign for President is under water:

#43: Your campaign staff has to daily explain what you meant to say, when you said what you meant.

Mark my words:

If his performance on 60 minutes is any kind of clue, when debating, Mitt will speak very forcefully, which will appeal to the aggrieved white males from red states who think they are being hard done by the "liberals."

There will be a display of machismo and bravado that will play well with his base, and may even make him look by contrast to Obama as a more manly man. Manly men shoot first and aim later, they don't have time for nuances or subtleties, they think and speak in certainties, even when they're wrong.

In the debates, the medium will be the message. Romney will be Loud, Simple, Belligerent and probably erroneous on almost every count, especially as he is getting desperate.

Obama will have to keep his sarcasm in check, and keep his own talking points up front, clear, plainly stated and substantive. On no account should he let himself get rattled by the volume of the diatribe. (Romney will try to call him names, without actually calling him names -- especially Socialist.)

The debates are Obama's to lose, but he must keep his cool without showing his impatience or his disdain.
