Is there anything really good out there? Who's doing it right and who's doing it wrong? It's hard to see all these companies raising millions of dollars but only coming up with crappy flash animated cartoons that cater to frat boys. Is that all there is for the internet? Old media streaming over interconnected computers?

I liked HSX.com for about 5 minutes. I liked joecartoon.com for about 10 minutes. I haven't really liked anything consistently (oh, I guess I'd better say - except Manka Bros.) Most of the stuff is cute or gross but in the end not very compelling. CNNSI is good for quick sports scores - so is ESPN and so is about a hundred other sports sites. I'm never bored, but I'm also never euphoric over any entertainment on the net.

I think icebox.com has a decent shot at making it. The only problem I see is that they start off with really funny ideas or drawings but end up having to resort to "frat" boy humor (I'm not sure where that term comes from but it fits). They should have more faith in the material. Some of these cartoons could have the potential to break out like a Simpsons or South Park but only if they don't take it into the toilet for laughs.

Come on, don't you all find it strange that we're hearing about all these entertainment companies going out of business from online news companies that will be going out of business - i.e, Salon, APBnews... The way this is all going - CNN could go out of business.

I don't Entertaindom's gonna make it. Industry Standard said they were on death row. Anyone planning to have broadband entertainment better have cash for at least two years before you start to see a decent return. I would advise people to remain lean and try to put out the best product possible and not worry about reaching a huge audience right now.

Warner Brothers launched their redesigned site today. http://www.warnerbros.com

It didn't change the world - I guess it wasn't supposed to - but it didn't change the world. Same old crap.

Nobody knows what they're doing yet. Just like television in the early 50s. Suddenly, Milton Berle came along and boom - people bought television sets. People aren't as starved for technology these days - so when a killer online show comes along - nobody is saying, I have to get broadband. HBO does The Sopranos and suddenly thousands of people are ordering HBO. TV and Online has to converge through a big box called television. Not a computer monitor.

The problem with big studios doing online entertainment is - unless they hire big time filmmakers and big time writers, the same ones they would hire to make the movies at the studios, they're essentially hiring amateurs and student filmmakers - filmmakers they would never even give the time of day before the internet. So, in their minds, they're putting out a sub-par product and how can you be enthusiastic about that if you are a studio. The suits don't respect the stuff that's online in their name!

Some of this stuff that studios are putting out online is horrible. Entertaindom, icebox, romp... they have all this money and talent and they're just throwing up whatever they can and hoping that something sticks. That doesn't seem like a solid business plan.

Icebox sucks. The funniest thing about the site is the realization that all their big name/big paycheck talent is taking the company for a huge ride. Maybe if the stuff was on some individual's site (i.e. the work of one or two guys) I'd give them a bit more credit. But when you realize how much money and talent is actually behind it, there's no excuse for how lame it is.

And Entertainment Weekly is not helping. I just saw that they gave all of Icebox's shows like A ratings and calling them broadcast worthy. Once again, EW brings down the standards of this country.

Probably doesn't help that people like you are buying it.

I don't think it's Entertainment Weekly's fault. Has anybody ever thought that people may like Icebox and their shows? I know it's hard for the people at Manka Bros. to understand that people like other things because they hate everything.

What's that? (he asks innocently) I'm afraid I'm missing your sarcasm.
