I would pay $4.95 a month for Napster but only if it was a service exactly as it is now. If you can't have all-you-can-eat, it takes away a lot of the fun and limits your ability to get anything you want.IP: Logged |

I've never been able to get their software to work on my mac anyway, but I still doubt I'd pay for it.It seems like the fact that you can get so much stuff free on the internet has made people really cheap when it comes to spending money (at least it has for me). IP: Logged |

You went to Macster? Napster for the mac totally sucks! PC is the only way to go! Better do it fast! Only 6 months to download every song ever recorded!IP: Logged |

I don't see how the courts can rule in favor of Napster. Napster will most likely be shut down today, but then it will be back in subscription form this summer. Whether it can get back its momentum is another matter.IP: Logged |

Napster was told to stop, but not yet. The lower court may take their time in revising the ruling... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/aponline/20010212/aponline133411_000.htm IP: Logged |

Good. It was stealing. Plain and simple. They will be able to appeal as far as they want. U.S. Supreme Court if they can. I think their goal is to keep it going until they can get their pay service up and running.IP: Logged |

So Napster is going to need to sign all the major music companies to a deal if they want to survive - but I don't think either side likes each other very much. The big music labels may just want to put them out of business and develop their own pay sites.IP: Logged |

If I'm the record companies, I take that $1 billion from Napster. They won't have any other way to get back some of the money lost (if any) and Napster and sites like it won't be going away no matter what the courts say. Take the money - do a deal - save Napster!IP: Logged |

The beauty of Napster is that I already have burned on a CD tonight's performance of Stan by Eminem and Elton John at the Grammys. That's why Napster can't go away.IP: Logged |

Poor music sales blamed on NapsterThe music industry is saying part of the reason music sales are down is because of Napster, the online distribution service which offers downloads of songs for free. According to a report released by the Recording Industry Association of America, manufacturers shipped out nearly 40% fewer CD singles to retailers in 2000 due to poor sales. The RIAA blamed that downturn on a number of factors, including Napster, retail consolidation and the economic malaise brought on by the threat of recession.

Shawn Fanning's uncle has completely screwed up the business. Do you all realize that Shawn Fanning, the kid who invented this thing, has only a tiny minority stake in the company. The Uncle has had bad business dealings and refuses to step aside for a qualified CEO to run things. They may lose everything and not get one penny while others just take the technology and reap millions.IP: Logged |
