If I were you, skinnylb, you wouldn't want to learn too much about show business. It's seriously about as boring as the insurance business. Stick with the creative side. A number cruncher is a number cruncher is a number cruncher and none of 'em no shit about creative stuff.

Okay, I have a REAL show business question.
What's the deal with hsx.com? Is it just a game, or are they trying to convince people to invest real money into movies?

Nope, HSX.com is just a game. There is no real money exchanged. I'm sure eventually they will build it into something like that. It just started as a goofy game and now they're got venture capital and are planning to become a film research and data information service to go along with the game. It's hard to know if they're going to make but a lot of people sure like playing the game.

There's nothing I like more than investing fake money. When there's no real risk and no real upside - what's the fucking point?

I have a big problem with all the vertical integration. Because of vertical integration, we're not going to see movies that are just good movies being made. Everything that is done will have to tie into merchandise, music, theme parks - franchise movies. It's great for business, I guess. But bad for storytelling.

But without vertical integration you wouldn't have Chimpanzeebra socks, Chimpanzeebra pots & pans, Chimpanzeebra junkets to Vegas. And what about Batman toys? Are you saying you'd be happy just to see the movie and not play with the toys?

Entertainment companies just can't survive without being vertically integrated. MGM is the only studio that basically a pure movie studio. They rise or fall based on how their movies do. That's a terrible burden on the entire process. Everything feeds everything else. And the public wants it.
