I know it's Sunday before July 4th, but I'm a little bored and thought I might come onto the Manka Bros. boards and start up a couple of topics I've been thinking about for this area. I figure we will have a topic set up for each major film studio - Manka Bros. not excepted. We can handle a little criticism with the best of them. So here's the place to talk about Disney. I, for one, think they have always been an inspirational and well-run company. Their growth slowed a bit over the last couple years, but it's a marathon, not a sprint and we all stall every once in a while. IP: 172.137.239.16 |

What can you say about Disney? They are the leaders of trends in entertainment. They remade animation into a cross-promotional profitable business and all the studios followed. They started Disney stores and others followed. Cable channels. Theme Parks. Reality television boom with Millionaire. And I'm sure the one area they aren't trailblazing - the internet - is driving them crazy. Since they're not starting the trends, they don't know how to do it.IP: 172.147.252.197 |

Anybody see the preview for Pearl Harbor. They should pull that thing from theaters immediately. Whew, what a stinker! The CGI Japanese planes look completely fake. I think Disney's gonna take a bath on this one.IP: 172.137.246.74 |

Without Walt Disney, none of us would be doing this today. He taught everyone the value of making your name a brand. Like coca-cola. I feel Manka and Disney are the only true successfully branded names. Warners and Fox and Universal, I just don't know what they stand for. I've read books, was it true Walt Disney was a fascist?IP: 172.129.95.222 |

I don't know if Walt was a fascist. I've heard a lot of stories about him being a communist, him hating communist, him loving Hitler, him hating Hitler...The reason for this post is - What's the deal with Disney releasing Princess Mononoke without the original Japanese dialogue track? They made a conscious decision to keep it off. There's just something so wrong with that - from an ethical and a business point of view. IP: 205.173.143.35 |

This is why I don't read books. If they printed the boring truth, who would be interested? Take a moment and think of how much useless Disney crap you and those you know have bought over the years for no good reason. That guy was a (THE) marketing genius. If Walt was the Nazi some claim him to be, we'd all be whistling 'Tomorrow Belongs To Me' instead of 'Whistle While You Work'. As to Princess Mononoke, who freakin' cares? Typical fanboy geek crap. You seem to be typing fine in English, I'm guessing you'll understand the English language track just fine. Bet you wouldn't even listen to the Japanese language track. It makes perfect sense from a business standpoint. They're worried about piracy of region 1 (us) discs being sold in region 2 (Japan) where it hasn't been released yet. What more sense do you want?!?! IP: 172.140.88.105 |

Whistle While You Work is more of communist song than a Nazi song. I think he was a communist. A fascist right wing totalitarian anarchist communist!IP: 205.173.143.35 |

Anyone else see this on the Drudge Report? Have any opinions?***********(From 'The Drudge Report')*********** MEGA MERGE: INSIDERS SEE POSSIBLE DISNEY PURCHASE OF APPLE COMPUTER, PIXAR **World Exclusive** There are preliminary discussions of a three way merger between DISNEY, APPLE and PIXAR, sources revealed over the weekend. APPLE/PIXAR's Chief Executive Steve Jobs "may leverage the computer giant and tech-studio to catapult himself to the chairmanship of DISNEY," one insider close to the action told the DRUDGE REPORT. "Both companies would be divisions of DISNEY, with Steve being president of both, as well as chairman of WALT DISNEY Co." A senior DISNEY source late Sunday called the merger talk "wild speculation". But APPLE and PIXAR reps, including Jobs' chief soul mate and software engineering whiz Avie Tevanian, are expected in Burbank this week, according to a DISNEY source. DISNEY and PIXAR [TOY STORY, BUG'S LIFE] are currently in a joint partnership to develop five films, the third, MONSTERS INC, is deep into production. "Steve will not sell PIXAR without APPLE," said one company source who demanded anonymity. "Steve will not leave APPLE for DISNEY. He wants DISNEY to take both."

Sure, Pixar would be great asset, but why do they feel the need to buy them. Haven't they done well enough with just a content deal. Pixar is the top of the line, but that doesn't mean that Disney should overpay for something. Plus, Apple is thrown in the deal? I'm no market analyst, but I would think Wall Street would hate the fact that Disney would be getting into the computer business. They bit off more than they could chew with ABC. Only Millionaire saved them from horrible mismanagement. Slow down, Disney. You shouldn't appear so desperate.IP: 172.142.45.87 |

President of Apple and Pixar and CHAIRMAN OF DISNEY? If you're chairman of Disney and Apple and Pixar are divisions of Disney, why would you need to be President of Apple and Pixar?IP: 205.173.143.35 |
