Here's a story I saw that I'll use to launch the Fox topic. We all knew Titan A.E. was a flop, but no one thought it could be this bad:Jessica Reif Cohen of Merrill Lynch said “Given its (Titan A.E.'s) high cost, estimated at over $85 million, excluding marketing costs, and only $17 million in receipts through its second week, we anticipate Fox will incur a write-down on ‘Titan A.E.’ approaching $120 million." Ouch. Talk about News Corp./Fox here. IP: 172.165.175.121 |

News Corp and Fox got some good news this weekend. HarperCollins, a division of News Corp is the publisher of The Perfect Storm book. They will most certainly get a windfall of new sales based on the success of the movie. I guess the bad part is that Fox didn't get the movie rights from its sister company. IP: 152.168.47.209 |

Fox is on the ropes these days. Even though they're producing a hell of lot of TV, that is deceiving when you look at the off-network possibilities. I think Buffy and Angel may do well down the road on Sci-Fi Net or fX but Ally McBeal and Malcolm seem to be "dated" material without much upside. The Practice will do par with a show like Law & Order. The Simpsons is gold, King of the Hill brooze. Futurama down and out. Film is in disarray. Fox needs a strong direction to pull them out of this tailspin.IP: 205.173.143.35 |

Fox is not only going to take a huge write down on Titan A.E. but Me, Myself and Irene will be a big bust. Basically, Fox gave the Farrellys and Jim Carrey whatever they wanted for this film. The costs were huge, their participations to talent are huge and they will also have to take a write down on that piece of shit. Tough year but I'm sure they still got some Titanic money laying around.IP: 205.173.143.35 |

Can you feel the pressure Fox is felling for this week's X-Men opening? They need a hit and if they blow X-Men, there will be a few more people blown out of Century City.IP: 205.173.143.35 |

Big media companies are so diversified these days, they need their films to make 1 dollar at the box office to survive. They've got their hands in a bunch of different pockets. They could survive 20 bombs in a row. Now MGM on the other hand...IP: 205.173.143.35 |

Have to disagree with you, Brad. Feature films drives every other piece of the studios business. Without feature films, they would lose video, television, international television, character licensing - the chain starts with films. X-Men stinker alert. Critics are ho-hum about a movie that should have blown people away. Strong start, weak finish. IP: 205.173.143.35 |

Disregard my post above. X Men is a big hit. $21.4 million on Friday alone - probably $50-60 over the first weekend. I was wrong. I admit it. Fox has a new franchise and I'm sure they're very happy. And Brad, this further disproves your point about feature films not being an important element of studios.IP: 172.147.244.94 |

Congratulations to everyone over at Fox. What you did was not easy. So many things have to go right to get that big of an opening weekend. I'm sure Bill Mechanic has some peace of mind right now.IP: 172.147.145.14 |

Big weekend. Contragulations. It will now be nice to see Elizabeth Hurley become a bigger star than her husand, Huhh Grant. IP: 172.163.28.38 |

I think it's safe to say that old barfing Bill Mechanic has been vindicated in a big way. His stock just rose all over town. And Horowitz, Elizabeth Hurley wasn't in X-Men. Maybe you're thinking of Rebecca Romin Stamos. She is definitely bigger than her husband now. But these days that's not hard to do.IP: 172.165.227.108 |

I'm sure Bryan Singer is also doing a little jig. This film could have broken him. He's now on top of the town.IP: 172.139.34.225 |

There's a whole bunch of dancing going on over at Fox today. There was a lot of pressure riding on X-Men.IP: 205.173.143.35 |

That's an amazing opening. And since Bill Mechanic was able to keep costs down. They will be in profit in just the domestic box office run. The rest is gravy.IP: 205.173.143.35 |

Bryan Singer is about the hottest guy in town right now. He took chaos and delivered a movie that people wanted to see. That makes you a hot commodity.IP: 205.173.143.35 |
